Now that I've fulfilled the nuclear war requirement, I'd like to add on that Tyrian is possibly the greatest game ever. It's got a solid storyline, upgradable weapons, colourful characters, funny advertisements, enemy ships which drop beer when destroyed and a ship known as the Super Carrot which looks exactly what it sounds like. Also, it's a fun scroll-shooter, great for working off stress. What more could one want?
Oh, and it's freeware now.
